PollStream Joins forces with EEA
PollStream is proud to announce a new partnership
with the Enterprise Engagement Alliance (EEA) a
coalition of leading organizations dedicated to
promoting and expanding the philosophy of engagement
in business.
Beginning in January PollStream will lend its voice
to the EEA as a frequent contributor to the
coalition's portal and blog, providing insight and
proven best practices on how the intelligent use of
social software can increase employee engagement and
earn discretionary effort.
Our social software tools will be integrated into the
EEA's portal, a move that will naturally enrich and
personalize the user experience for EEA members and
those that are new to the coalition.

PollStream is proud to continue its support of Sleeping
Children Around The World (SCAW) by donating bedkits
for children in need in honour of every new customer -
and every existing customer - during the holiday season.
Since 2005, PollStream's commitment to social responsibility
has led to the purchase of bedkits for children in the
Philippine's, Bangladesh, India and several locations
throughout Central America.
"Business has the potential to help transform our
global society for the better," says PollStream
President Steven Green. "There's no better way to
celebrate our ongoing relationship with our customers
and members of the PollStream community than continuing
our support at home of an organization that helps so many around the world."

Build Engagement by Building Community
|
What do the Stanley Cup, a baby shower and the newest
office romance have to do with ROI? More than you
might think. Office water cooler chatter is one way
that employees work to establish social capital,
maintaining value throughout their complex network
of relationships. Strong stores of social capital
are necessary for organizations that rely on decentralized
operation and point-of-contact decision making.
Office chatter is just one way that community gets
built in the workplace. Behind the speculation over
which team will make it to the playoffs are deeper
questions—what do you value? Do you accept my values?
Can we respect each other if we disagree?
The strategies and tactics for building community
are different from the types of leadership that it
takes to organize a committee or build a team. The
conversations in a workgroup revolve around loyalty
and consequences. In community the stories are about
mutual accountability and commitment.
In his book
Community: The Structure of Belonging,
Peter Block describes six types of conversations
that are essential for establishing viable community.
The ability to build accountability and commitment
within a group depend largely on how well leadership
can manage the following conversations:
Invitation: Am I welcome here? Is this conversation for me?
Possibility: What is the new future we can create in this space?
Ownership: How much will I contribute? To what extent am I the cause of our current state of affairs?
Dissent: Am I free to speak my mind, even if it means sounding "negative" or oppositional?
Commitment: Am I willing to go beyond lip service and be committed to this process?
Gifts: What do I bring to the table? What gifts have I received from others?
Organizations seeking a more engaged and committed
workforce are turning to intentional communities
organized around online spaces such as The Hive,
Comment Engine and Sparkplug. With proper moderation
these spaces provide the intimacy and small group
experience necessary to rethink the future and
deliver powerful results.
